“We loved you so much that we gave you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.” 1 Thessalonians 2:8
My home church is
Tapestry Church , in Calgary. I heard about Current (previously known as Crossover) throughout the year at the Canadian Convention of Southern Baptists, but after meeting with Ashley Thaba and talking to her about Celebration Church in Ottawa, Ontario I fell in love with the idea of working with University students all summer in such a multicultural environment. After praying about what God would have me do in the summer, I felt like He was calling me to spend my summer sharing my faith and watching the Holy Spirit plant seeds of faith iin the students at Ottawa University
God is so good! That was a common phrase that came out of our team’s mouth during this summer. We spent six weeks in Canada’s capital city, Ottawa trying to build relationships with the students at the University of Ottawa.
During our six weeks, we saw our Heavenly Father move in powerful and unexpected ways. We saw him open the hearts of the friends we had made, allow us to share His good news and continue to provide for us throughout the summer. God’s goodness was continually shown to us throughout the summer in ways that only God could have orchestrated.
The Holy Spirit open opportunities for us to build relationships with Muslims, atheists, Catholics and people who had never heard of Jesus Christ. The scripture above was a reminder to me of how I want to live my life. Not only was I there to tell of God’s love with the students of Ottawa University, I was there to show them God’s love. I wanted to build relationships with the people I met, and share God’s promised with them through the opening of our friendship.
God taught me so much this summer, and showed me how good He is and how faithful He is. I saw God provide us with opportunities to build friendships, and to learn how universal his good news is.
The time I spent in Ottawa was a season of planting seeds. My team and I shared Christ’s love with the students, many of which had never heard the message of the gospel. I had forgotten how important it is first share the gospel with someone, before they can understand it and accept it. It was a blessing to see that the seeds that were planted this summer are growing. Through the continued relationship between Ottawa University and Celebration Church, I believe that God is going to make his truth known to many of the students from Ottawa University and that we will sing God’s praises because of what He has already done, and will continue to do in their lives.
The Holy Spirit is at work at Ottawa University, you only need to step on the campus to see it. God is opening the hearts of the students and the employees of the school.
What a privilege I had to go to Ottawa and spend my summer being used by my Heavenly Father. I am excited to hear how God continues to work at Ottawa University and how He will impact that campus
