SUMMER MISSIONS in Zurich, Switzerland

by Mattana Chan.  Summer, 2005

Mattana is a member of Evangel Chinese Baptist Church in Edmonton

Our mission team was divided into two ministry areas – five chose the street work, which involved ministering to homeless, prostitutes and drug addicts in the parks and shelters, while I and seven others concentrated on leading a week-long kids camp,

There were three things that struck me:

-The power of prayer.

-God is bigger than anything and everything we face.

-Fur Gott ist alles moglich (With God, all things are possible) more

Borrow a Pen, Make a Friend, See God Work

A story from Jiayi Zhu,before her baptism. Jiayi is a new member of Celebration! student church in Ottawa.  Jiayi Zhu, is from Wuhan, Hubei, China.

It was a random day in my life – that’s how all this started.  A girl knocked on my door, asking to borrow a pen. She was leaving a note for my floormate, inviting him to a bible study. You guessed it! The girl was Ashley [Thaba]. Of course, since she was there, Ashley invited me to come. I actually went right then, joining the Bible Study to see what it was all about.  That’s the beginning of my spiritual journey... more

Summer Missions in North West Territories

by Jonathan Redekop, Summer 2005

Jonathan is a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Calgary

This summer I had the opportunity to get involved with a summer missions program called "Current" in Fort Simpson, NWT. Allowing yourself to be the bridge that connects your experiences with Christ to the people around you was a challenge that made me want to cry with tears of joy on some days, and gouge my eyes out with a spoon on others. Throughout the summer, our team of four college students, were able to pour ourselves into all kinds of community projects, more.

by Brett Thorton, Summer 2005

Brett is the youth pastor at Willow Creek Ministries in Nanton.

God has richly blessed the youth ministry over the past year and a half. ...We have a group of young men and women who have heard and responded to God’s call ...to leave their old lives behind and walk in His light. Many, with no previous church background have confessed faith in Christ.

More and more this summer we have seen that these youth are not just a potential part of a church, and not just the church of the future, but they are the church now.   more

Summer Missions in Ottawa

by Kyla Moon, Summer 2005

Kyla is a member of Tapestry Church in Calgary.

“We loved you so much that we gave you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.” 1 Thessalonians 2:8

God is so good!  That was a common phrase that came out of our team’s mouth during this summer.  We spent six weeks in Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, working with Celebration Church, trying to build relationships with the students at the University of Ottawa.

During our six weeks, we saw our Heavenly Father move in powerful and unexpected ways. more

The point on mission in Mexico.

By Sarah Stirk,  Summer 2005

Sarah is a member of Westlynn Baptist Church in North Vancouver.  This mission trip  was organized by "The Point" a student church meeting at Simon Fraser University.

Our two-week mission trip began with Collegiate Week in Glorieta, . . .Our biggest and possibly most enjoyable job was hosting Open Mike night, which ran from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. three of the nights we were there. It was amazing to see so much God-given talent up there on stage and great to hang out with our new friends.

When our week in Glorieta ended, we drove through Texas and down to the México border. And that’s when we nearly got into serious trouble. . . more

A testimony from Jiayi, a student at University of Ottawa:

from Ashley Kelley at Celebration Church, Ottawa, Ontario, 2005 .

So at last, I was convinced that Christianity is the Truth. I started to believe in God and asked him into my life. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and I wanted to follow Him. I thought why would I not follow the one who created everything.  And Ashley and Ann-Marie were super excited when I told them.. . . That is why I am here today. I hope that for the rest of my life I will try to be obedient to what the Bible says because I have decided I want to follow God. more

MacMaster students on a 3 week mission trip to Cambodia & Vietnam.

Christine Connolly from Sanctuary West Church, Hamilton, Ontario, 2005

About twenty Khmer from Vietnam came to Cambodia to hear the gospel in a training session.  Thirteen of them were baptized and two of them stated that they counted the cost of this decision by saying they would be willing to follow Christ by going back to their village to share the good news.  Jail time and persecution are very strong probabilities for these individuals. more

KT a University of Alberta student is serving in Asia.

Pray for KT, from the University of Alberta BSM & "The Bridge, Edmonton, Alberta, Summer 2005

Because of security concerns this student cannot be identified and the linked letter from this student has been edited to keep the ministry safe.

I have arrived safely in Asia, and I can honestly say it is good to be back.  I am living with Dr. ****** , who is awesome.  Dr. ***** runs a number of music programs in the country, including the conservatory, and truly has done an amazing job here . . . Even being here less than a week, I can say with complete confidence that we are desperate for workers in this area of the world. more

The Harvest is Plentiful: Ministry in Asia

KT a student from The Bridge Church & University of Alberta BSM, Edmonton, Alberta, Summer 2004

A dust devil blew through the small army tent, quickly covering us with a layer of sand and debris. The nine of us sat quietly, enjoying the shade from the scorching sun. Surrounded once again by the history which millions of believers read about in Scripture, the scene was unreal. Here, where the Scripture comes alive ..., the people have never heard.   more

Mali West Africa Mission Trip

By Jordan Kupisz, Impact Church, Montreal, Quebec, Summer 2004

I went to Mali with a group of 11 amazing individuals who each played a vital role in our mission. Our mission in Mali was to educate the people of Mali about AIDS and how to best avoid contracting HIV. We also hoped that in our doing so we would be able to tell the people of Mail that we came from Canada not only to tell them about AIDS, but also about the love of Christ and his desire to be a part of their lives. more

Story Telling in Bamako, Mali

Hannah Jones is a journeyman missionary serving in Mali, West Africa. Her home church is Impact Church in Montreal, Quebec. September, 2004

We spent the day just visiting with people, and M. told F. some exciting news. He said he had had a dream about Jesus. We often hear about people having visions, and dreams but had never imagined that God would choose to speak to M. in this way. ...
We did 3 stories that night. M., Y., S. and Y.'s wife were all present and participating as F. asked questions. At that moment I kept thinking, this is really what we came for, this is church! more

Acts of Kindness in Penticton, British Columbia

From Laura Cruikshank & Mark David Martin, Richmond Hill Baptist Church, Calgary, Alberta, Summer 2004

Our college group attended a college retreat weekend in Cochrane at Bow Valley Church early this year and this is where we first started to consider a mission trip to Penticton. One of the guys in our group pointed to a picture on a board about mission's opportunities and said "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if we could do something like that?!" Suddenly I asked "Why not?" Now that I think back to this quick response I can think of many things that stood in our way, but we knew that if God really wanted us in Penticton, or anywhere else on Mission, it would be possible. A couple weeks after the retreat we had contacted Abundant Life

Christian Fellowship  Church in Penticton and started to train and plan. more

Impact Church in Montreal has French Counterpoint

by Harold Campbell Montreal 2004

"Many of the younger Québécois are wounded and disillusioned," said Chantal Vallée, one of the organizers for l'église Impact. "We need to show them that God is love. We need to show them that the Christian faith is not a religion, it's a relationship with Jesus Christ."

L'église Impact grew out of Impact Church, a church started last fall in downtown Montreal for the city's university students. The ground was fertile for growth-more people per capita attend colleges and universities in Montreal than in any other North American city. more
